About Good Jobs Better Baltimore
Good Jobs Better Baltimore is a community group working to revive the American Dream. We want to get Baltimore’s economy back on track and make every job in Baltimore a good job with pay and benefits that support our families.
We are people in unions, in churches, and in neighborhood groups. Since April 2011, more than 18,000 Baltimore residents have joined Good Jobs Better Baltimore to stand up for good jobs, a stronger local economy, and corporate accountability—and we’re still growing. Join us!
What We’re About
We want to revive the American Dream.
We believe working people are the backbone of Baltimore, and they are getting a poor deal in this economy. The rich keep getting richer and everyone else is getting farther and farther behind. Corporate profits are rising steadily, corporate bonuses are at obscene levels, and the income gap between rich and poor keeps growing.
We are listening to people in Baltimore neighborhoods and finding that they want a chance to live the American dream. Most of us don’t expect to be rich or famous. We just expect a living wage and good benefits for a hard day’s work.
We believe that freedom includes the right to a fair wage, a decent life, and hope for the future.
Locally, we’re taking on issues that impact the community like the proposed BGE/Constellation merger with an out of state company that threatens to move thousands of local jobs out of the state, and provides no rate protection for BGE customers- who already pay the highest electric bills per household of any state in America.
Nationally, our goals include pushing Congress to hold corporations accountable for paying their fair share of taxes so that people in our city can have good jobs, and so that we can maintain our healthcare, public safety, education and other vital services – and guarantee our children a better future.
